Chinese Alligator

(Alligator sinensis)

Native to: Yangtze River, China
Primary Diet: Fish, snails, clams, mussels, small mammals and waterfowl
Adult Weight: 50 to 88 pounds
Status: Critically endangered
Females lay between 10 and 40 alligator eggs at a time. Sex is determined by the temperature of the egg during incubation. Temperatures below 82 degrees produce females, while temperatures of 91 degrees and higher produce males.
