CAMEL

BORN AT THE MILWAUKEE COUNTY ZOO

NOW ON EXHIBIT

The Milwaukee County Zoo is proud to announce the birth of a Bactrian camel on March 7. The male, named Franklin, is now on public display in the outdoor Camel Yard.

Franklin was born to mother, Sanchi, and father, Moses, -- it is the fourth offspring for the parents. Franklin weighed approximately 90 pounds at one-day-old, and he was up and walking just hours after his birth. Camels, like many hoofed animals, are able to stand soon after they are born. Zookeepers note that Franklin is settling into his surroundings, and getting along well with the other camels in the yard.

Franklin was named after one of the zoo’s longtime curators, Bess Frank, who recently retired.

Franklin is usually on exhibit in the afternoons where he can be seen outside in the Camel Yard with his parents
