Iniko the Potto

The Zoo welcomes Iniko, a male potto, who was born at the Cincinnati Zoo on December 23rd, 2008. Zookeepers report he is shy and likes to hide in his nest box in his exhibit. It might be hard to spot him in his exhibit, because he only weighs a mere one kilogram.

Pottos belong to the primate family, and are native to areas of thick vegetation along the equator in Africa. They can live at heights ranging from sea level to 2,089 meters in elevation.

These nocturnal animals eat fruits, vegetables and crickets. They have an expandable stomach that allows them to eat large quantities, even up to 8% of their body weight.

Eventually the Zoo may obtain a female potto to breed with Iniko.
