The Zoo is offering these wonderfully wild and educational tours for visitors to get an up-close look at our magnificent animals.
The Wild Connections tours are offered in a variety of price ranges and offer visitors the opportunity to go behind the scenes to learn what it’s like to care for the animals, their unique adaptations and behavior, and even their favorite foods and treats.
Rhi-not love these unique unicorns!
Join us for this Wild Connections tour that takes you behind the scenes into the home of one of the Zoo’s toughest animals, Jozi the rhinoceros! Be introduced to over 2,000 pounds of muscle, learn about her species’ plight in the wild and feed this dinosaur-like vegetarian. You might even get to touch her armor-thick skin and see her prehensile lip in action! You’ll be amazed to discover how charming black rhinoceros are!
Be prepared for a wildly amoosing time!
Bundle up, slip on your boots and be prepared for the trek to meet our resident moose, Robin, in her private hideaway. On the hike to see Robin behind the Small Mammals building, learn about how animals adapt for the winter weather and why seasonal changes are so important for species like moose. Moose are the largest of the deer species, and once at the barn, you’ll see exactly how big they are while you feed Robin her favorite treats -- apples and bananas!
Sleigh ‘Hi’ to the Reindeer!
Migrate with us to the west end of the Zoo to learn what it takes to care for our resident reindeer pair. Get close enough to hear the click, click, click of their hooves and feel just how heavy their antlers really are! Then, help us feed Rosie and Kyllikki their favorite treats, as you learn about their unique adaptations that keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer!
Feed our highest-flying friends!
Take flight with the flock! Join us for this 20-minute Wild Connections experience that lets you be part of feeding time! In the Herb and Nada Mahler Family Aviary, you’ll meet some of our most playful and colorful residents “up close and personal” – our mustached Inca terns. Learn why their white feathers that resemble a mustache are so important, and what you can do to help them thrive in the wild while feeding them their favorite food – fish! This experience is guaranteed to make a bird lover out of anyone!
