The Milwaukee County Zoo Celebrates Independence Day

Harbor seal pup and mother

Posted June 2014

In recognition of the July 4th holiday, the Milwaukee County Zoo will again offer $4 admission to all visitors on Friday, July 4 (the parking fee of $12 still applies).

Families can spend quality time together on the holiday, enjoying all of the attractions the Zoo has to offer. During your visit, be sure to meet our newest resident and a first for our Zoo: a male harbor seal, born June 8, and now on exhibit with mother, Sydney, and father, Ringo.

This birth is also a first for 17-year-old Sydney, and 36-year-old Ringo. Sydney has proven to be a very attentive mother, following the pup, and letting Ringo know when he gets too close to the little one. Sydney was donated to the Zoo in 2005 by the Alaska Sea Life Center. Prior to that, she came to the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammals Rescue and Rehabilitation Program as an orphaned pup. Ringo came to the Zoo in 1979. The family can often be seen swimming together in their outdoor pool.

The Zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 4. For more information, contact the Zoo’s Public Affairs and Services Division at 414.256.5466.
